Haryana Launches Major Yamuna Rejuvenation Initiative
The Haryana Government has announced an ambitious Yamuna Rejuvenation Drive by planning 19 new treatment plants to improve water quality and reduce pollution in the river. As part of the initiative, the state has already established Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) with a combined capacity of 423.5 million litres per day (MLD). The project is expected to strengthen water management, support river conservation, and improve environmental sustainability across Haryana.
Expanded Sewage Treatment Capacity to Reduce Pollution
The newly planned treatment facilities will significantly enhance the state’s ability to treat domestic wastewater before it enters the Yamuna River. Nine Effluent Treatment Plants Planned Across Districts
In addition to the sewage treatment facilities, the government will construct nine Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) in multiple districts to treat industrial wastewater more efficiently. These projects will help industries comply with environmental regulations, reduce harmful discharge into water bodies, and strengthen industrial waste management. Improved treatment systems are expected to play a vital role in protecting the Yamuna while encouraging sustainable industrial growth.
